Palmetto Bay Dedicates Bridget Allison Pier Playground

On May 13th, Coral Reef Park’s playground was renamed as the Bridget Allison Pier Playground with around 150 residents and politicians in attendance.

It was a bittersweet and respectful day with lots of people reuniting to rally for the event.

Bridget, who died in 2011 at age 7 of a massive stroke, always loved the park and played in it regularly. She is also the daughter of Meighan Alexander, the former Village Clerk for Palmetto Bay.

During the dedication, the Coral Reef Elementary chorus (where Bridget went to school) sang songs in her honor and several of her teachers and neighbors spoke. Of course, both mom Meighan Alexander and father Brian Pier reflected on the life of Bridget.

The effort, led by Councilwoman Karyn Cunningham, also drew Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava to speak.

The day was filled with hugs, some tears and lots of love. Two new pieces of playground equipment were also officially opened for the kids to play on.

The one with her memory plaque was unveiled by six of Bridget’s former classmates. They also released butterflies in her honor.
