2013 Palmetto Bay Food and Rock Fest

When it comes to great live music, Palmetto Bay and Florida Rock Stars are quickly becoming a potent combination. On Saturday, November 2nd the second annual Palmetto Bay Food and Rock Festival took place at the site of the old Burger King headquarters, now known as the Palmetto Bay Village Center.

Beginning at 3pm and running through midnight, the festival drew nearly 2000 people to see some great live rock cover bands. Besides music, the festival featured nearly 25 food trucks...

premium drinks (including beer from Miami Brewing Co.), craft and services booths (warning: blatent plug!)

and for all the football fans a massive projection screen showing UM vs. FSU. In fact, the UM game and Ribfest (scheduled at Zoo Miami earlier in the day) may have been the only damper on even larger crowds. "We believe we're about 25% higher attendance this year," estimated Mickey Filippucci, one of the show organizers.

Beginning with several local bands, the crowds got to see strong performances from Colbert

As dinner time arrived and crowds grew, Classic Rock Therapy belted out some great selections of classic rock.

They were followed by Riverdown.

It was the Jamie King Colton Band that stole the show, as their charismatic lead man showed the crowd into a dizzying level of talent and music.

The evening was capped with Tampa's Led Head. Billed as a Zeppelin experience, they ran the crowd through more than an hour of Zep tunes. Dressed the part and vocally similar, I didn't love them, but they were certainly adequate. Again, it was the Jamie King Colton Band that was sonic bliss.

Besides delivering great live music and fun activities, Florida Rock Stars teamed up once again with local charities to ensure they did some good. This year's premier partner was the American Way Foundation, which, based out of Homestead, Florida, provides unique support services to underserved communities in South Florida.  The whole affair was streamed live by MusicianStream.com
